What to know about renting a boat in South Lake Tahoe
Boating is (without contest) the most popular lake activity during the summer months, and this expansive watery playground plays host to a myriad of boating activities such as sailboat regattas and even one of the country’s leading wooden boat shows — the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance, which takes place every August. Boating culture reigns supreme for as long as the weather permits, and powerboats and jet skis dart across the water along with picturesque sailing vessels. For even more rental options be sure to look at all of Lake Tahoe for the most ideal location to start your boating adventure.
Boaters often partake in watersports as well, which range from the relaxing (such as kayaking to the exhilarating (such as parasailing, water skiing, and wakeboarding). Given the extreme depths of Lake Tahoe, scuba diving has also become a popular pastime, and can allow the adventurous to experience this beautiful lake in a unique way. Fishing and boating often go hand in hand, and Lake Tahoe has plenty of specimens to tempt any fisherman, from large and smallmouth bass and at least three different varieties of trout, to bluegill, sockeye salmon, and more.
About South Lake Tahoe
Nestled between the borders of California and Nevada in the scenic Sierra Nevada lays one of the largest and most well-known lakes in the United States — the stunning Lake Tahoe. Its high altitude and ski resorts make it a popular winter destination, but boaters will delight in the lake’s many charms during the late spring to early fall seasons. Lake Tahoe’s varied landscapes, beautiful beaches, and deep bays make it a boater’s paradise that thousands flock to each year as soon as the snow begins to thaw.

Our family had a great time on Luke’s pontoon boat! The whole experience from beginning to end was perfect. Luke gave us some tips on where to go so that was really nice since the lake is huge. My daughter loved being pulled on the tube! I would definitely rent from him again.
We rented the smaller pontoon boat for our family of 10, including 3 generations for the morning half day session. We arrived, got our orientation and were on the water by 9:15am. The boat is in great shape and worked well. We had a blast just cruising the lake and pulling the inflatable with the grandgirls. Everything went exactly as planned.
Cave Rock revised the parking policy due to Covid19 and we were not able park our two cars on site. We found street parking down the highway but no ride share cars were available for us to get back to the boat ramp. I called Luke and he gladly picked us up. Our rental boat was nice and no issues experienced.
The pontoon was immaculate! We did a last-minute booking on a Monday evening and Bo had the boat ready for us the following morning. We had a great time and they provided a fantastic service. We will definitely look them up again on our next trip.
The service James provided, and his boat, were fantastic. He was easy to work with, super flexible, kind and helpful to my family, and his boat was beautiful and came with everything we could possibly want for a day on the lake. In particular, the awning on the boat, easy entry from the water in the back, and grill on the back were really nice features to have. Can’t wait to book with him again next year!
This absolutely made our trip the most memorable it could be. The boat is luxurious and comfortably accommodated our two families (four adults and four teens). James was so very generous with his time and guidance. We had limited experience with boating and James spent lots of time upfront reviewing the ins and outs of maneuvering his boat and then was available at the drop of a hat every time we had a question. The boat is also fully equipped with an adult and a child wake board, wake surf boards, a slalom ski, and a brand new tube! We rented the boat for four days and wish we could have it even longer. We would start around 10:30 or 11 with tubing and wake boarding, then dock at Emerald Bay for lunch and a swim in the lake, and end with a sunset cruise (and more tubing) around the lake. We will absolutely want to rent his boat again when we return to Tahoe. Thank you James for making our trip the best ever!
