The Boat: S/F Optimist The S/F Optimist is a 28 foot Uniflite built in 1980 and remodeled in 1997 for more comfort. She is a looker. She's got a pair of twin diesel, 200 horse Volvos, that can get her up and movin', usually cruising at 22 knots. Because of her heavy hull and low center of gravity Optimist cuts through the water easily and is impressively stable. She can accommodate up to 6 anglers. She's equipped with the most advanced electronics and a complete array of down riggers and customized fishing tackle. With a layout designed for comfort and warmth she has a v-berth down below with a comfortable bed, a head (bathroom), an enclosed heated cabin and an unrestricted cockpit in the back that allows 6 to fish comfortably. Both stability and comfort are assured when either fishing or running. She's quite a boat.

Captain Daniel came to Homer from Federal Way, Washington in 1988 because, as he put it, the fish to person ratio was right. While growing up in the Northwest Daniel started his illustrious fishing career with his first boat "the sieve" (a 6 foot wood dingy). At the age of 10 he started fishing the waters of Puget Sound. Daniel has since become a recognized leader in developing (and teaching) new techniques for year round controlled depth fishing. Fishing is definitely Daniel's passion and there's no bigger optimist.
