The Charters Day fishing trips: All day trips begin between 6:15 – 7 am depending on time of year. We offer half day, three quarter, full days, extreme trip and Florida Keys Dolphin Tournaments charter. The Full Day Legendary and Classic Fishing Trip of Islamorada This is our most popular charter and for good reason! This is considered a full day trip in the Sport-Fishing Capital of the World. After we have caught our bait we go fishing. In low season September 15th to April 15th or when we are in a winter pattern we are generally fishing just off the reef in about 100 to 140 ft. of water. We have 5 or 6 hot fishing grounds and are targeting sailfish, king mackerel and wahoo primarily. We do this in slow troll or drift mode in and out of gear. Sometimes we will drop a bottom line to pick up bottom reef fish such as grouper. If the fish are not biting then we move to another ground. While on the move, the captain may put out lures for cero mackerels. The captain would be spotting for sailfish in the shallow waters. Depending upon current, wind and water conditions, the captain may decide to fish for tuna or amberjack if things are really not working out. In high season April 16th to September 14th or when we start fishing off shore for dolphin i.e. mahi-mahi or dorado, wahoo and marlin. This involves traveling off the reef to waters 500 to 1500 ft. depths and we cover a lot of ocean. If there are no fish on we are moving constantly in search of birds, weed lines, magical debris or anything that might hold fish. We troll lures, dead baits and pitch live baits. When the action starts it can be fast and furious. Trolling lures and dead baits can produce a variety of fish as it is a big ocean and pelagic fish travel 1000’s of miles to find our hooks. You never know what you may catch, but we do know what we are targeting. Full Day Trip - Seriour Anglers and Tournaments Option – 2nd mate in cockpit or 2nd spotter – Add $200. Per day (captains discretion). Same trip as the legendary /classic fishing trip noted above in high season but with more “run and gun” for eager anglers and tournament fishermen. Think steroids. Like the chase and not satisfied with just catching fish? This type of fishing requires additional baits, preparation and rigging prior to fishing as well as a considerably higher fuel burn. There is also additional demand on the captain, crew and vessel. In some cases, we may have to fish farther to find the quality of fish expected to compete. Some tournaments revolve around catching several different species and may require resetting or changing of tackle and vast changes in locations. Anyone can choose this trip over the classic, you don’t have to be a serious angler or fishing in a tournament. We simply designed this trip for optimum competitiveness. The Classic 3/4 Day Trip The 6 hour trip is perfect if you have to make a plane that afternoon or evening, heading down to Key West before dark or just want to get in one more day of fishing with a limited budget. You’re back at the dock by 12:30! We can’t go as far with the limited hours and we can’t be as flexible but this is an opportunity to fish the waters of Islamorada. This trip will most likely include a trip across the world famous Islamorada hump. The Happy Half Day Trip The 4 hour half day is a great way to get introduced to fishing and a great way to get some delicious dinner filets. Younger children are great at this fishing and we enjoy teaching them. Adults also enjoy this fishing challenge. We still get bait for a “down rod” to pick up some bottom fish. Hopefully a grouper! This fishing is limited to reef fishing primarily for yellow tail snappers and do to the time constraints of just 4 hours. These are good fighting, light tackle fish between 2 and 8 lbs. We go to one of our “hot spots” drop a chum bag in the water and begin feeding the fish with our special mixture of oatmeal, chum, silver minnows and our own secret sauce of 11 herbs and spices. We drift our baits down into the cloud of oatmeal- letting out line until the line runs. Then reel, reel, reel! Notice that I never said “jerk and set the hook.” The only way to not catch these fish is to “jerk and set the hook.” Bass fishermen, leave that one at home! The Shark / Tarpon Trip This is a great trip for anglers and novices alike. It is a leisurely 10 minute ride from the marina to the main channel anchorage area. This is a great tune up for fishermen who are fishing the next day or for people who want to catch a shark or possibly a tarpon in the summer months. It also gets you familiar with Miller Time, your captain and crew and learn your way around the boat. Hammer heads, bulls and nurse sharks run though the channel. They can be aggressive and can run 500 lbs. They will test your strength and endurance. Tarpon are seasonal – May through September are considered the high season. Extreme Swordfish Plus We always start with rigging and prepping specialty baits for this trip prior to your arrival. A stop at the bait patch is also necessary as we will be fishing our way out to the deep water; for this type of fishing we head offshore up to 25 miles. We have opportunities for dolphin/ mahi mahi or dorado, tuna, wahoo and marlin in this trip as well. Once we get to our swordfish spot, we will deep drop one line then drift along the ledge for up to 1 hour at a time. We will make as many drifts as time will allow and we will fish our way back to shore. The sword fishing is a very patient process. But the rewards are well worth it! Your Catch! We will clean, fillet and bag the fish for you! Bring an extra ice chest to take the fish with you or have one of several local companies ship the fish home. There are plenty of local restaurants that will cook it up for you that day! Bait All of our day fishing trips begins with a trip to the bait patch about 3 miles or 15 minutes from the head pin of the channel. We anchor out about 4 miles at one of our patch reefs, chum up bait fish and throw the net to capture the bait. We may catch ballyhoo, cigar minnows, speedos, pilchard, pin fish, or blue runners. Fish love live bait! It can be “easy bait,” “one-throw-n-go” or it can be tough and take several throws to get enough. Turtles, sharks and barracuda hanging around can slow us up. They will tear a net to shreds. Rest assured that we have additional bait and tackle if needed. If the sharks and barracuda are persistent we will typically have one of our guest fishermen on that day sit on the side of the boat and dangle their legs in the water and splash about to attract the sharks to that side of the boat and we will throw the net off the other side. Usually we spend about 20 to 30 minutes on the bait patch. Maybe longer if we have to retrieve feet or legs from the water. For our captain growing up in Key West during the 60’s is where it began. At age 11, he caught his first wahoo 78 lbs and 78 inches, less than 2 miles into the Atlantic from a converted PT boat. The fish was hooked as so was he. Many wahoo, sails, marlin, dolphin, snappers and groupers would follow. The captain has fished all over the lower latitudes but it wasn’t until the 2006 RolexIGFA Bill fishing tournament in Cabo San Lucas that he made a decision to run his own boat. Based on all he had seen, the areas he had fished the finest, most consistent year round sport fishing and finest sport fishermen were close to his roots in Florida. For 3 years, he fished Florida almost exclusively and began the search for the area, the boat, the marina and the captains that he wanted. In 2014, after over 40 years of fishing, he made the commitment to buy his boat and bring his knowledge and experience to the company. The captain has one son, lives in Islamorada, Fl. and has a home in Austin, Texas.
