Charter on 28' Power Catamaran from Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Enjoy Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa by boat! Charter a Captained 28' Catamaran for up to 8 people for as low as R2800 per person. We were the only successful applicant for the Boat Based Dolphin & Whale Watching Permit for Algoa Bay, South Africa. There was only one permit issued. The permit was issued on the 20th June 2011 by the Department of Environmental Affairs, which allows us close encounters with whales and dolphins. Although there were many factors that counted towards the allocation of the permit, we believe that we were successful because of our commitment to marine conservation and education. Most of the funds generated by our tours go towards The Penguin Research Fund which is trying desperately to explain the dramatic decrease in the African Penguin population and rectify this situation. Raggy Charters also undertakes regular beach clean-ups in the Port Elizabeth area and has started an initiative to offset our carbon footprint by planting at least one indigenous tree for every boat cruise we do. We offer bottom fishing charters which takes guests out past St Croix Island to find fish such as cob, Cape salmon, red roman, dageraad, and basterman. All tackle is supplied, though we do ask local guests to arrange their own fishing permits, which can be obtained from any post office, and adhere to the bag limits enforced. We also ask guests to provide their own bait which can be obtained from local marine shops and we can advise you on this! You are entitled to any of the fish that you catch, and we can often arrange for your fish to be prepared and cooked at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club, to have for lunch at the end of the excursion. Rods and reels are supplied, however, clients are requested to supply their own lures. During this cruise guests also have the possibility of spotting bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, humpback dolphins, Southern right whales, humpback whales, bryde’s whales, minke whales, African penguins, Cape gannets, Cape fur seals, various species of sharks, African black oystercatchers, Cape cormorants, white-breasted cormorants and various species of pelagic birds including terns, petrels, skuas, shearwaters and albatrosses. The boat: Winkle- Our 28-foot catamaran able to carry 8 passengers plus 2 crew. Winkle was built in 2011 to help us with our vital penguin research we have been carrying out in Algoa Bay since 2008. Our research in to the decline of the african penguin has proven the cause to be overfishing of sardine and anchovie populations, which can be monitored with this research vessel. It is also our designated whale watching vesse, with which we can get 50 metres away from the ocean's giants! The boat is SAMSA certified and was specifically designed with the Eastern Cape ocean conditions in mind, to make it as comfortable as possible for our guests!
