Captained Charter on 'Black Pearl' Boat Dolphins in Akaroa
Swimming with friendly, playfull Hector's dolphins in Akaroa Harbour The great thing about viewing or swimming with dolphins is that you are doing it in their natural habitat completely on their terms, and so of course we cannot absolutely ‘guarantee’ dolphins on every single trip, and nor can any other operator. Sometimes dolphins may have calves with them, or are feeding, mating or just resting. It’s important for us not to interact with dolphins when they don’t want to. But you may be interested to know that in the last 12 months we saw dolphins on 98% of our cruises and had successful swims on 81% of our swim trips. So you have to be a bit unlucky to miss out! SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS You will enjoy a once in a lifetime experience; it's the ultimate dolphin encounter by swimming with the Hector's Dolphin. Hector’s dolphins are protected in Akaroa Harbour by a marine mammal sanctuary and our cruise gives you the chance to see these beautiful marine mammals close up in their natural habitat. This adventure allows only 12 swimmers per vessel, so you’ll have more chances to come face to face with the dolphins. With only 12 swimmers allowed per vessel, cruises are frequently sold out, which makes it essential for you to book in advance. You must be at least 8 years old to swim and chidren between 8 - 12 inclusive must be accompanied by an adult. Duration: Two hours on the water (plus half an hour before and after). Price: - Adult: $155 ($80 to watch) - Child: $120 [8 to 15 years] (watching $40) [5-15 years]

The Award Winning Black Cat Group is internationally recognised as one of the success stories of the New Zealand tourism industry and an eco-tourism pioneer. We were the first to offer cruises in Akaroa and we are recognised as New Zealand's first Eco-tourism operator. From humble beginnings carrying a few hundred people per year in small canoes and dinghies, Black Cat has grown to be one of the largest cruise companies in the South Island. More than 120,000 people will experience a Black Cat Group cruise or dolphin swimming adventure this year in a fleet of modern catamarans. Black Cat’s home territory on Bank’s Peninsula, just a short drive from the South Island’s largest city, Christchurch, is one of the most spectacularly beautiful parts of the Island, and home to an inspiring collection of marine wildlife and birdlife, including several endangered species.
